The team studies the structure - interaction - function relationships of the extracellular matrix (ECM) by combining biochemistry, biophysics, structural biology, bioinformatics and systems biology (omics).  The team has identified new binding partners of ECM proteins and glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), built and analyzed a number of ECM interaction networks and their rewiring in disease, and created the ECM  interaction database MatrixDB (http://matrixdb.univ-lyon1.fr/), a service of ELIXIR-FR  which belongs to the International Molecular Exchange consortium.

The team is currently investigating the role of intrinsic disorder on the conformations of ECM proteins and their interaction networks with a focus on the membrane proteoglycan syndecans to determine the role of their GAG chains on the structure of their disordered core proteins, and on the lysyl oxidase family to determine the 3D structure of their catalytic domain and their supramolecular organization.
